As 2024 draws into its final few months, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the State of Salesforce DevOps report. Thanks to the 1,296 Salesforce users who shared their insights and experiences in the 2024 State of Salesforce DevOps survey, the report offers a rare look inside the ecosystem to see the current priorities and challenges for Salesforce teams. Let’s take a look back at the Salesforce DevOps trends that shaped the year and find out how you can help uncover what teams can expect in 2025.
Technical maturity
The pace of DevOps adoption for Salesforce development shows no signs of slowing down. Gearset’s State of Salesforce DevOps report found that the vast majority of teams have adopted version control and CI/CD or planned to implement it in 2024 (86% and 81% respectively).
Adopting these key practices positively correlated with elite DevOps performance and these teams are reaping the rewards, including improved change-tracking and visibility over their release pipeline.
Release quality
In 2024, we’ve seen release quality push ahead as one of the most significant drivers of DevOps ROI. More teams identified improved quality of releases (54%) as delivering Salesforce ROI for their companies compared to frequency of releases (38%) and better collaboration (46%). Improved quality of releases has a direct impact on productivity, as teams spend less time rebuilding failed deployments or fighting fires in production.
Democratizing DevOps
One of the most exciting shifts in DevOps for Salesforce is the closing adoption gap between admins and developers. As Salesforce DevOps platforms increasingly support declarative DevOps, we’re seeing more teams achieve a unified release process.
The 2024 report shows that this democratization of DevOps continues at pace, as 73% of teams are deploying all changes using the same release process, regardless of the person’s role or the metadata type.

Compliance concerns
This year, across the ecosystem, there has been a focus on data security and compliance. Teams have been working towards fulfilling compliance requirements, with 82% already compliant with at least one security framework and 52% working towards at least one additional framework in 2024.
Teams report that good data management practices have been vital to achieving compliance, with the majority of teams reporting that data and metadata backups helped ensure their Salesforce orgs meet the standards they need. Thankfully, only 13% of teams didn’t have plans to secure their orgs with backups, suggesting most teams were set up for compliance success in 2024.
