You have a customer meeting at 2 PM. Before the meeting, you want to know what happened with this customer. You open Salesforce and check the account. Then you check the opportunity. After that, you open Slack to see what your team discussed. You search your emails for the last conversation. You may also check the notes from the previous meeting.
By the time you finish checking everything, you have already spent a lot of time just preparing for one meeting. This is where Salesforce in Claude comes in.
Anthropic has released Salesforce in Claude in beta. It brings Salesforce information into Claude and allows sales teams to use Claude for many of the tasks they normally do around Salesforce. The interesting part is that Claude does not just read the information and give you an answer. With approval, it can also make changes in Salesforce. Let’s understand how it works in simple terms.
Salesforce Headless 360 Hands-On: Run Your Org from Claude with the Hosted MCP Server
What is Salesforce in Claude?
Salesforce in Claude is a plugin that connects Salesforce with Claude. Once it is set up, a seller can ask Claude questions about their Salesforce accounts, opportunities, and pipeline. For example, instead of opening several Salesforce pages and searching through records, they could ask:
| “Tell me what I need to know before my meeting with ABC Company.” |
Claude can then look at the information it is allowed to access and prepare the details. The plugin has 37 skills for common sales work. These include things like account research, meeting preparation, pipeline reviews, opportunity updates, and CRM updates.
So the idea is quite simple. You tell Claude what you need. Claude finds the information and helps you do the work.
Why would a sales person need this?
Sales people do much more than just talk to customers. There is a lot of work before and after every meeting. They have to check opportunities, update Salesforce, write emails, prepare reports, check messages, update close dates, and keep the sales pipeline clean.
And the information they need is often spread across different tools. Salesforce may have the opportunity details. Slack may have the latest discussion between team members. Email may have the customer’s latest response.
Meeting notes may have important information that has not yet been added to Salesforce. A sales person normally has to bring all of this together themselves. Claude is designed to help with that part.
Claude can give you a morning sales brief
Imagine starting your day and asking Claude: “What should I focus on today?”
Claude can prepare a brief based on your sales information. It can show things such as:
- Meetings you have that day
- Deals that are close to their expected closing date
- Opportunities that may be in trouble
- Messages that need a reply
- Other deals that need your attention
This can save the seller from going through everything manually. And it does not stop at showing information.
If you decide that an opportunity needs a new close date, you can ask Claude to make the change. Claude will ask for approval before making the update.
Preparing for a customer meeting
Let’s go back to our earlier example. You have a meeting with ABC Company. Instead of checking Salesforce, Slack, email, and old meeting notes one by one, you can ask Claude to prepare you for the meeting. Claude can look at things such as:
- Open opportunities
- Current deal status
- Recent team discussions
- Unanswered questions
- Previous conversations
- People involved in the deal
This gives the seller a quick picture of what is happening with the customer. There is another useful part. Sometimes a person may be involved in a deal through Slack conversations but may not yet be added to Salesforce.
Claude can find those people and, when appropriate, add them as contacts on the account. That means the Salesforce record can become more complete.
Claude can help you look at a deal
Now imagine you have a large opportunity in Salesforce. The deal looks good on the surface, but you are not sure if it will really close. You can ask Claude to review it.
Claude can look for problems such as:
- Important information missing from the opportunity
- Stakeholders you have not spoken with
- Questions that are still unanswered
- A close date that may be difficult to meet
- Gaps in the deal qualification
It can then help create a close plan. The plan can include dates, next steps, business information, qualification details, and missing stakeholders. Once the seller reviews everything, the approved information can be saved back to Salesforce.
So instead of simply saying, “Your deal has some problems,” Claude can help you work through those problems.
What happens after a customer meeting?
This is another area where sales people spend a lot of time. The meeting finishes.
Now there are several things to do. You need to send a follow-up email. You need to update Salesforce. You need to write the next steps. You may need to change the opportunity stage.
You may need to change the expected close date. You may also need to tell your team what happened in the meeting. Claude can help with these tasks.
It can take the meeting transcript or the seller’s notes and prepare:
- A follow-up email
- A summary for the deal channel in Slack
- Suggested Salesforce updates
- Next steps
- Stage changes
- Close-date changes
The seller can check the information first. Only after approval are the changes made in Salesforce. This is important because the seller is still making the final decision.
Checking the sales pipeline
Sales managers spend a lot of time looking at the pipeline. They want to know:
- Which deals are likely to close?
- Which deals are delayed?
- Which opportunities are at risk?
- Where is the team falling behind?
Claude can help answer these questions. A seller can ask Claude to show the pipeline.
Claude can create a view showing deals by stage, deals that may slip, and the reasons behind those risks. The seller can also look deeper into individual accounts. If a close date needs to change, the seller can ask Claude to update it after reviewing the proposed change.
Claude can also help prepare the written forecast that a sales leader needs to share with management.
What about Salesforce security?
This is probably one of the most important things to understand. Claude does not simply get access to everything inside Salesforce. Salesforce remains the main system where the company’s sales information is stored.
The seller signs in using their Salesforce credentials. Claude works with the information that the seller is already allowed to access. For example, if a user cannot access a particular Salesforce record because of Salesforce permissions, connecting Claude does not automatically give that user access to it.
The existing Salesforce permissions still matter. Claude also asks the seller to approve proposed changes by default before they are written to Salesforce.
So the seller remains in control of the changes.
What happens to Salesforce?
Salesforce is still the system of record. This means the official customer and sales information continues to live in Salesforce. Claude is helping people work with that information. A simple way to understand it is:
Salesforce stores the information.
Claude helps you work with the information.
The seller checks and approves the changes.
This is an important difference. Claude is not replacing Salesforce. It is being used on top of Salesforce to help people work faster.
Claude can also work with Slack
Salesforce is not the only place where sales teams keep information. Many teams use Slack to discuss customers and deals. That is why Salesforce in Claude also has a Slack connector. Claude can look at relevant deal conversations and account-team discussions.
For example, the Salesforce opportunity may say that a deal is moving forward. But a conversation in Slack may show that the customer has raised a new concern. That extra information can be useful when preparing for a meeting or reviewing the deal.
What does the Salesforce admin need to do?
The setup starts with the Salesforce administrator. The admin connects Salesforce for the organization. They can then decide which groups should get access to the plugin. After that, sellers can sign in and start using the available skills based on their permissions.
There is also a setup skill that looks at the seller’s tools and connections and creates a Claude Artifact based on their role and sales work. So the experience can be different depending on what the seller actually needs to do.
Companies are already using it
According to Anthropic, companies including GitLab, Siemens, and Legora have deployed Salesforce in Claude. Anthropic also says that 7,000 Salesforce sellers are using it in their work. The main benefit reported by these teams is simple. Sellers spend less time searching for information and doing repetitive CRM work. That gives them more time to spend with customers.
What does this mean for Salesforce admins and developers?
This is where things get interesting for Salesforce professionals. Salesforce work is changing. Earlier, a user might ask an admin to create a report, update a field, build a flow, or change a Salesforce process. Now we are seeing more AI tools that can understand business requests and work with Salesforce data.
That means Salesforce professionals need to understand more than just configuration. It is becoming useful to understand:
- Salesforce permissions
- Data access
- Integrations
- APIs
- AI features
- Automation
- Security
- Data quality
- Governance
For example, if an AI tool is going to update Salesforce records, someone still needs to make sure the right users can access the right information. Someone also needs to decide what the AI should be allowed to do. That is where Salesforce admins, developers, architects, and consultants can play an important role.
Is Claude replacing Salesforce?
No. Salesforce is still the place where the actual CRM information is stored. Claude is more like a helper sitting on top of that information. Think about it this way.
You have a Salesforce record with all the details about a customer. Instead of opening the record and checking every section yourself, you can ask Claude a question about it. Claude can find the information and explain it in a way that is easier to understand.
If you want to change something, Claude can prepare the change and ask you to approve it. Salesforce still keeps the final record.
The bigger idea
The interesting thing about Salesforce in Claude is not just one feature. It is the way all these small tasks can come together. A seller can start the morning with a sales brief. Then they can prepare for a customer meeting.
After the meeting, Claude can help write the follow-up email and prepare Salesforce updates. Later, the seller can review the pipeline and check which deals need attention. All of this can happen around the same Salesforce data. That could make the normal sales workflow much easier.
How can teams get started?
Salesforce in Claude is available in beta on paid Claude plans. The Salesforce MCP is available through the Claude Marketplace. Administrators can request access through AgentExchange and connect Salesforce for the organization. Before rolling it out to a large team, companies should think about Salesforce permissions, user access, security, approval processes, and internal rules for using AI.
The technology may be new, but the basic Salesforce rules still matter.
Final thoughts
Salesforce in Claude is a good example of where Salesforce and AI are heading. Sales people do not want to spend their day searching through records, emails, Slack messages, and meeting notes. They want to understand the customer and have useful conversations.
Claude can help by bringing the information together and taking care of some of the work around Salesforce. At the same time, Salesforce remains the main system for the customer and sales data.
The seller still reviews the work and approves important changes. For Salesforce professionals, this is worth watching closely. AI is becoming part of the way people use Salesforce. And the future may not be about choosing between Salesforce and AI.
It may simply be about using Salesforce with AI to get everyday work done with less manual effort.
