Introduction to Conga Trigger

Conga Trigger is an add-on for Conga Composer that enables automatic document generation without requiring manual button clicks. This article outlines the steps to install and configure Conga Trigger in your Salesforce org.

Installing Conga Composer

Before using Conga Trigger, ensure Conga Composer is installed and set up in your org.

Installing Conga Trigger

  1. Download and Install the Package
    • Install Conga Trigger in either Production or Sandbox, depending on your environment.
    • Select Install for Admins Only during the installation process.
  2. Enable Conga Trigger
    • Submit a support case to Conga to activate the feature in your org.
    • Once enabled, check the Trigger Dashboard to confirm activation.

Setting Up Conga Trigger

1. Create a Conga Solution

A Conga Solution defines how your documents are generated and sent automatically. You will need to create the following:

  1. Navigate to Conga Template in Salesforce.
  2. Click New to create a template.
  3. Enter a Name and choose the Document Type.
  4. In the Related tab, upload the document you want to send through Conga.

Steps to Create a Conga Email Template

  1. Navigate to Conga Email Template.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter a Name and the email body in both HTML and Text formats.

Steps to Create a Conga Solution

  1. Navigate to Conga Solution.
  2. Click New to create a solution.
  3. Enter a Solution Name and select the appropriate Master Object (e.g., Opportunity, Account).
  4. Click Add Template to select and add the template you created.
  5. Click Add Conga Template to Record Solution to finalize the attachment of the template.
  6. Add parameters to the Conga URL, such as the Record ID and any additional parameters to identify recipients or other behaviors.
  7. Test your Conga Solution by creating a test record and clicking Access Template Builder to ensure everything works correctly.

2. Create a Conga Trigger

Once your Conga Solution is tested, you can set up Conga Trigger to automate document generation.

  1. Navigate to the Conga Trigger package you installed.
  2. Go to Conga Trigger Formula Builder.
  3. Choose the Master Object (the same one used in the Conga Solution).
  4. Select the Conga Solution you built.
  5. Choose the Output Method (e.g., email, download, etc.).
  6. Enter a Name for your field.
  7. Click Create Field.
  8. If you encounter any errors, copy the formula from the builder and manually create a Formula Field on the Master Object using the copied formula.

3. Configure an Outbound Message

Outbound Messages allow Salesforce to send data to an external system when a record is created or updated.

  1. Go to Setup > Outbound Messages.
  2. Click New Outbound Message and select the Master Object.
  3. Enter the Endpoint URL https://workflow.congamerge.com/OBMListener.ashx.
  4. Add the Formula Field (created by Conga Trigger) and Record ID to the message fields.
  5. Save the outbound message.

4. Create a Record-Triggered Flow

A Flow will send the Outbound Message whenever a record is updated according to your criteria.

  1. Navigate to Setup > Flow.
  2. Click New Flow and select Record-Triggered Flow.
  3. Choose the Master Object and set the trigger conditions (e.g., only when certain fields are updated).
  4. Add an Action, select Outbound Message, and choose the one you created in the previous step.
  5. Save and activate the Flow.

To check for any errors related to the Conga Trigger, go to the Conga Trigger Dashboard to review and identify any issues.

Conclusion

Once these steps are completed, Conga Trigger will be fully functional—automatically generating and sending documents without manual intervention. This setup improves efficiency, reduces errors, and ensures a seamless workflow.
